Penny Paperbark Working Group - Upcoming/Next Activity
Thanks to everyone who helped out with our first two working bees at the Paperbark Woodland.
We are having another working bee at the site on Wednesday of next week.
As before, it would help if you could email Colin so he has some idea of numbers.
When: 1.30 pm – 4.30 pm, Wednesday 19th Feb
Where: Paperbark Woodland, Sisters Inlet – between the two main bridges, just west of the car park.
What: We will be protecting some more of the sprouting paperbark shoots with tree guards, anchoring down roots that have shoots coming out, and laying the next lot of the brush mattresses. We will also test out the photopoints that have been set up on the site – using your phones.
If you don’t have time to help out on this day, feel free to drop in and find out more about what we are doing.
After this, the next working bee is likely to be over Easter, when Janet will come down with a whole lot of friends from the big island - all are welcome to be part of this.
What to Bring on Wednesday:
Hats, gloves, long pants, sunscreen & suitable shoes
Trowels, weeding spades
Hammers (heavy hammer is best, but any will do)
A staple gun, if you have one
Hamilton Tree Planters, if you have any
Bring something to share for afternoon tea – our last two have been awesome!
Water and/or thermos with tea or coffee
Tell others who might be interested, everyone welcome.
By this date we should see the fence up - the poles went in yesterday.
Thanks to Bill Walker, Wayne Flint and Waratah-Wynyard Council for making this happen, and funding it.
Thanks all,
Colin Hocking
PS. We are about to finalise a draft of the Wildcare application – details soon.
